Bali motorized shades are getting a simpler path into the connected home. On November 3, 2026, Bali announced a partnership with Bond that brings its Smart Shades into the Bond Home App, letting owners control their window treatments from a phone, set automated routines, and link shades to Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings. The catch is a familiar one in smart home gear: app control requires the Bond Bridge Gen 3, and it only applies to Bali motorized shades purchased after April 2023.
For homeowners who already have Bali motorization, the announcement is less about new hardware and more about a better control layer. Instead of relying solely on a handheld remote, shades can now join the same app and routines as other Bond-compatible devices in the home, including ceiling fans and fireplaces.
What the partnership adds
Under the partnership, compatible Bali Smart Shades work with the Bond Home App, which connects to the shades through the Bond Bridge Gen 3. With the app and bridge together, owners can raise or lower shades from their phone, group shades by room, or control several shades at once. The app also supports routines tied to daily schedules, so shades can open in the morning and lower as the sun sets without anyone touching a remote.
That scheduling is the most practical part of the announcement. Motorized shades are at their best when they move on their own: opening bedrooms in the morning, cutting glare in a living room in the afternoon, and closing for privacy in the evening. The Bond integration turns that kind of schedule into a routine in an app many smart home owners may already use for fans and other devices, rather than a separate shade-only remote routine.
Voice and platform control is the other half of the story. Through the Bond Home App and bridge, Bali Smart Shades can connect with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings. That means a shade can be part of a broader scene, such as a “good morning” routine that opens shades, or an evening routine that closes them alongside other devices, rather than sitting outside the main smart home system.
How it works: app, bridge, or remote
Bali and Bond are pitching flexibility rather than forcing a single control method. Owners can keep using a traditional remote, switch to app-based control with the bridge, or use both. The Bond Home App is designed around simple pairing and a straightforward interface for managing shades, which matters because window treatments are often installed once and then expected to just work for years.
The bridge is the key piece of the setup. The Bond Bridge Gen 3 is required for app-based control, and it is what links the shades to the phone app and to the wider smart home platforms. Without it, the shades still work with a remote, but they do not gain the app routines or voice control that this partnership is about.
Grouping is another small but useful detail. Owners can organize shades by room or control multiple shades together, which makes it easier to manage natural light, privacy, and comfort across a home. A single command can handle a whole room of windows, rather than requiring each shade to be adjusted one at a time.
Compatibility: check the purchase date first
The most important fine print is the cutoff date. The Bond Home App works with Bali motorized shades purchased after April 2023 and requires the Bond Bridge Gen 3. Customers with motorized shades purchased before April 2023 can continue using the existing Bali Motorization App and compatible equipment, but they do not get the Bond integration.
That split is worth checking before buying a bridge. If your shades predate April 2023, the new app is not an upgrade path for them, and the older Bali Motorization App remains the way to control them. For newer shades, the bridge is the added purchase that unlocks the app and platform features.
Bali motorization is available across nine product categories: Cellular Shades, Layered Shades, Natural Shades, Pleated Shades, Roller Shades, Sheer Shades, Solar Shades, Tailored Roman Shades, and Classic Roman Shades. That breadth means the integration covers most of the company’s motorized lineup rather than a single flagship style, which is good news for owners whose shades are already installed.
Why this kind of integration matters
Window treatments are one of the quieter corners of the smart home, but they are also one of the most useful once automated. Shades affect light, heat, privacy, and comfort every day, and they are used far more often than many people expect when they first motorize them. The problem has often been fragmentation: shades on one remote, fans on another app, and lights on a third system.
Bond’s role here is consolidation. The company, from Olibra LLC in New Jersey, builds controls for motorized shades, ceiling fans, gas fireplaces, lighting, and outdoor living products, and it became part of Somfy Group in July 2026. Its portfolio includes the Bond Bridge Pro, Sidekick for Shades, Breeze Pro, Firefly controllers, and Mate Pro, with integrations for leading automation and voice-control platforms. Bringing Bali shades into that same app reduces the number of systems a household has to juggle.
For Bali, the partnership fits its positioning. Part of the Springs Window Fashions family of brands, Bali focuses on do-it-yourself custom window treatments sold in stores and online, pairing a wide range of styles with a process designed for homeowners to install themselves. Adding app control through Bond makes motorized shades easier to justify as part of a connected home, rather than as a standalone luxury.
“Smart home technology should make everyday life easier. By bringing Bali Smart Shades together with the Bond Home App, we’re giving homeowners more flexibility in how they control their shades — from adjusting them on their phones to creating routines that fit their day. It’s another way we’re making the benefits of motorized window treatments more accessible,” said Zach Brooke, Director of Product Management.
What to check before you buy
- Purchase date: Confirm your Bali motorized shades were purchased after April 2023. Older shades stay on the Bali Motorization App.
- Bridge: Budget for the Bond Bridge Gen 3, which is required for app-based control and platform links.
- Platform: If you use Alexa, Google Home, or SmartThings, the integration lets shades join routines and scenes in those systems.
- Control preference: You can keep the remote, use the app, or mix both, so there is no need to give up the simplest control method.
Outlook
The Bali and Bond partnership is not a flashy product launch, and that is arguably its strength. It takes shades that many homeowners already own and gives them a better, more connected control layer without requiring replacement hardware. The April 2023 cutoff will disappoint some long-time owners, but for newer installations it removes a common reason motorized shades stay isolated from the rest of the smart home.
As window treatments continue to join broader home automation, integrations like this one matter more than any single new shade style. A shade that opens with the morning routine and closes with the evening scene is doing real work in the home, and it is doing it through the same app and voice assistants as everything else. For Bali owners with compatible shades, the Bond integration is a straightforward upgrade worth considering, provided the bridge requirement and purchase-date cutoff are clear before buying.
